Recipe Card: Grandma Peggy’s Toffee Bars

This one dessert straight from my grandma’s kitchen that I’ve been missing out on so bad ever since cutting out dairy. So if I can’t have these right now, maybe you can! These rich, gooey, chocolatey toffee bars are the perfect fix to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. And they’re incredibly easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter, divided
  • 1/3 cup uncooked old-fashioned oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 TSP baking soda
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1 (14 oz.) can condensed milk
  • 2 TSP vanilla
  • 1 (6 oz.) package chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 6 tablespoons of butter. Stir in oats, brown sugar, flour, baking soda, and pecans.
  3. Firmly pat mixture into a 9×13-inch pan. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes or until slightly brown.
  4. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons of butter and condensed milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Pour over crust and return to oven.
  5. Bake 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let stand 1 minute, then spread evenly with spatula. Cool to room temperature. Cover and chill until firm.
